What an incredible night. FASHFEST each year is the kind of inspiration that the emerging creative community in Canberra needs. I attended both shows on opening night last night and was absolutely blown away, not only by the talent showcased on the runway, but also by the inclusiveness and enthusiasm of all the attendees. When you think of fashion shows – for example, Mercedses Benz Fashion Week, there is an exclusiveness and aloofness that makes it difficult to access as a ‘normal’ person – these sorts of fashion shows seem reserved for the elite in their fields. However, FASHFEST isn’t focused on the prestige or the expense or the Chanel bags (although I did see quite a few last night), it’s about celebrating the talent and community, giving everyone a purpose and a right to be there.

In short: it was wonderful.
