What I Wore: FASHFEST Closing Night Outfit & Recap

Canberra’s major fashion event for the year concluded with a real mix of home-grown designers, second hand styling and brands from across the Tasman sea. After not making it to the second night of FASHFEST because of an upset tummy (TMI, I know), I was keen to celebrate the last night in the knowledge that it would be another year until it came around again.

Charly Thorn, who showcased last year for the first time, released her spring/summer collection, full of Australian wools that were somehow¬†floaty?!¬†(how did you do it, Charly???) and very tropical, with teals and greens showing through white canvases. Miss Winks turned up the heat, demonstrating a collection of lingerie designers who showed you don’t have to sacrifice sexiness for comfort. The Salvos Stores upcycled segment was a real favourite with the media pit – “Wowww” was uttered a number of times, as old discards were painted, cut or sewn into new life. Last year’s favourites, Zilpah Tart, Braddon Tailors and Megan Cannings Designs amped it up with vibrant floral inspired designs, which tied it nicely with Floriade’s Nightfest happening across the road. And the blue dress from the Darwin Art Fair collection (check it out in the slideshow below) stole the night with the model’s big hair and graceful movement.

Until next time, FASHFEST!
