Over the past two or three months, I’ve treated myself to a few new beauty products I’ve been wanting to test out. These are all bits I’d thought long and hard about whether they were worth my hard earned cash (which is why there are a couple palettes in here, to get my money’s worth). Some of these are relatively new-in for Mecca, so I thought I’d share my thoughts with you about what I bought and why – in-case you’re looking for an enabler to splurge a little, too.
Clinique High Impact Mascara
This is a re-purchase for me, as I used both my sample AND a full size up pretty quickly. It’s not waterproof (although you can get a waterproof version) but it’s a nice lightweight, relatively natural-looking mascara that separates and lengthens. If you’re into thick, coated lashes, this probably isn’t the one for you, but I tend towards a natural, slightly enhanced makeup look rather than full glam, so I absolutely love it.
Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer
The other thing I repurchased was the Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer (I have the shade Ivory) because I LOST MY OTHER ONE. I know, it hurt so bad. It’s a great, high coverage consistency, which works both for my dark undereyes and if I ever get breakouts or redness on my chin or around my nose. Again, it’s basic but it works.
RMS Beauty Luminizer X Quad
I take forever to make decisions, so was so happy when Mecca started stocking the RMS Luminizer Quad – I didn’t have to choose just one highlighter from RMS, I could have four! I find all four colours work well with my skin tone (I have very fair skin) and the creamy consistency makes them SUPER easy to apply, whether that’s as a finisher over a full face of makeup for a night out or just a subtle highlight when I’m not wearing any foundation. Quick tip: these work really well as eyeshadow bases, too, which you can really amp up with some pressed glitter on top!
Urban Decay Shapeshifter Palette
Again, I hate just choosing one product (what if I get the wrong shade??? I like choice!) so I went for the Shapeshifter palette from Urban Decay in Light-Medium. I have to say I’m not too impressed by the powder side as it has a lot of fall out and doesn’t really stay on the brush. But the cream contour, blushes and highlight are AMAZING. I can apply them and blend them out with my fingers, no hassle, and there’s a good mix of complimentary tones for lighter skin.
Byredo Bal D’Afrique Eau De Parfum 50ml
This perfume is very different to anything I own (I tend towards very fresh, citrusy scents) and very unique. It’s a fresh scent, but with a sweeter, deeper undertone than, for example, my Dolce & Gabana Light Blue. It’s exotic and slightly stone fruity (I’m terrible at explaining scents). At first, I wasn’t sure I really liked it, because it was soooo different for me. But layering it up with some of my everyday scents gives the smell warmth and depth, and I can safely say now that I absolutely love it. Definitely would recommend having a sniff when you’re next at a Mecca store.
Clinique Even Better Glow SPF 15 Foundation
This is probably the highlight of my beauty purchases from the last few months, mainly because I ACTUALLY FOUND A FOUNDATION THAT IS PERFECT FOR ME. Excitement, much. It’s super lightweight, really hydrating, smooths and perfects with still the personality (my freckles and slightly flushed cheeks) of my skin poking through, AND I can apply it with my fingers without it looking weird. I’m the laziest person when it comes to makeup and don’t like spending half an hour on my face, so the fact that I can put it on like a moisturiser is a huge plus for me. Don’t worry, it’s buildable – and your skin actually feels better after it’s been on, which is INSANE. I use the shade Ivory CN28.
