Now with the news out that FASHFEST will be getting a sister show in Wellington in the next few years (if you haven’t heard the news, you can read HerCanberra’s interview with FASHFEST founders Clint and Andrea Hutchinson HERE), it makes sense to showcase some of the incredible New Zealand talent on Canberra turf this coming FASHFEST. As well as other homegrown New Zealand designers, Mount Maunganui based NYNE is debuting its somehow simultaneously minimalist and eccentric pieces at the National Convention Centre in the finale show presented by the Department of the Exterior, Manuka.
One of the reasons NYNE stands out aesthetically is the confidence behind the designs. Established over 12 years ago, designers Tina Patrick, Miranda Dawson and Jacob Scott-Simmons have built a commercially-available and extensive label, with 200+ items listed for the consumer on NYNE’s online store. If you haven’t yet found your outfit for FASHFEST, you should definitely check it out HERE or make your way to the Department of the Exterior boutique in Manuka, where NYNE is exclusively stocked. Each piece celebrates a minimal palette and accentuates shape and movement. This coming season’s line draws inspiration from the works of Andy Warhol, an exciting addition to the runway. Keep your eyes peeled for the collection on closing night!
In the meantime, I’d highly recommend checking out the inspiration of NYNE’s Instagram and tumblr pages – moody shadows, balancing the softness of shades of grey with harsh geometric lines and scribbled handwriting. The aesthetic is beyond beautiful. This is a collection that is designed to be seen and appreciated.
