As ENLIGHTEN Canberra is always such a big event and attracts crowds of people, I’d originally decided not to go this year. Having grown up in Canberra, I’d “seen it all” and I was particularly keen to wait for 30 minutes just to get a carpark, let alone get into the Night Noodle Market. However, my boyfriend’s family invited me along with them on the final Friday and I didn’t have a good reason to say no, so I ended up back in front of the National Library, in awe of the crowds.
It’s rare that Canberra gets busy to the point of bustling, so (despite my dislike of crowds) I quite enjoyed the vibrancy of the atmosphere. The light installations were breathtaking – a particular favourite this year was the light-bulb cloud – and, when we headed to the lake’s edge, the still, mild air and bright moon were quite relaxing. I’d also never been to the Night Noodle Markets before because they’re always so busy, so we grabbed burgers from a food truck (I VERY much enjoyed them).
ENLIGHTEN Canberra is on for two more nights – 11th & 12th March – so head out to the Parliamentary Triangle for some good food and a buzzing atmosphere. You can check out www.enlightencanberra.com.au for programs of the nights.
