Before I get into the bulk of this post, I want to welcome you all to December – the year is almost over, congratulations, you made it! To celebrate, I’m doing the good ol’ tradition of Blogmas, where I upload a blog post EVERY DAY until Christmas. I’ll be running a few giveaways announced on my Instagram over the next 25 days, so head on over to keep an eye out! Christmas is my favourite time of year, so I want to share the joy and festivities with all of you. There is also a giveaway to go with this post, so keep reading to the bottom to find out how you can enter.
The last week I went away for my (premature) summer holiday down to the east coast and it got me thinking about how, no matter what time of the year, skincare is SO important. In winter, I suffer from dehydration mostly, so that was my focus a couple months ago, but now that the hot weather is here, it’s really vital to up that sun protection. If you’re like me (i.e. hot, sweaty and red as a beetroot when the thermometer tips over 20 degrees Celsius), the last thing I want to wear is long clothes over summer, so my two options are SFP of 50+ or just staying inside until March. I’ve been trialing the La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL SPF 50+ oil (an oil?! What?! How does that protect your skin?! – was my first reaction) and, once you get over the price point (I bought it in a 2FOR1 deal at Priceline) and the fact that it feels very unintuitive to be slathering yourself with an oil as a sunscreen, it has been my absolute saviour this past week. Anyone who suffers from irritated skin, dry skin, doesn’t-much-like-the-sun skin – this is the product for you. It’s not sticky, it’s water resistant, I didn’t burn once AND your legs and arms feel silky smooth when you go to bed after a day in the sun. I actually can’t rave about it enough. The face cream that goes with it, the La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL SPF 50+ Comfort cream, also works a treat. It’s more of a traditional feeling face cream, light but silky, and I’ve just swapped it in my skin care routine in the place of a regular day cream. A swipe of the Nivea Protect SPF 30+ lip balm and I’m ready for a day at the beach.
For night, my trusty Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Cream is still a staple in my routine. I’ve also almost finished my Alpha H Balancing Cleanser that I was gifted from RY.com.au, and I’m definitely heading out to repurchase. It’s very soothing and light, perfect for a gentle cleanse when there’s not much heavy makeup involved (although it doesn’t do too badly with a full-on smokey eye and two coats of mascara, I have to say). I’ve also taken to applying the Body Shop’s Shea Body Butter (we’ll see how long this routine lasts for, I’m terrible at sticking to body moisturisers) on my legs before bed or after a shower, as I still struggle, even in summer, with uncomfortably dry skin. If it’s anything to go by, my boyfriend has asked three times now if I have any of it on hand – it’s a nice neutral smell and really rich and moisturising.
A final sneaky add-in is my current favourite fragrance. I bought a small 30ml bottle of the Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue EDT to trial, as my previous scent was discontinued, and I am totally in love. This is the perfect zesty, summery scent – it’s not sweet, it’s full of citrus and fresh greenery and it really just does smell of the sea and summer to me. I know it’s been around for yonks and I’m late to the party, but I feel like this is the sort of scent that almost anyone will love – maybe a good Christmas gift idea?
To give you all a chance to enjoy my summer skin favourites, I have a few of the products in a giveaway that will run for the duration of Blogmas! I’ve included the La Roche-Posay oil, La Roche-Posay face cream, the Body Shop Shea Butter, the Nivea Sun Protect lip balm and a set of the Alpha-H Balancing Cleanser and Daily Essential Moisturiser. All are products I’ve purchased myself, just to give something back to my community of readers. Hope you enjoy!
